Abstract:
With increasing resistance of bacteria against the antibiotics it has become essential to search for alternative preventive measures. In the present study nine phenolic and six flavanoid compounds identified along with antibacterial potential of Indigofera hirsuta was evaluated using ethanolic and methanolic leaf extracts. The results reveal that between 200 to 250 µg ml-1 of both the extracts could inhibit the growth of the four bacterial strains viz. Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
